Yummys for Winter

Winter is the coldest out of all the seasons, and it's not at all surprising that at this point, people will be all bundled up and staying at home, trying to keep warm. And what better way to keep warm than to eat? Of course, we can keep warm through food two ways: we can eat a lot of food, or we can just indulge in nice, freshly-made yummys that are sure-fire providers of inner heat. Spending time in the kitchen is really a tempting thing when it's freezing outside, so it shouldn't really be a stretch for you to create yummys for the winter.

When it comes to winter, comfort food is the way to go. Unlike fall, when the snacks are preferred to have the warm flavors and the like, in the winter, your yummys are expected to be literally warm, if not hot, to combat the numbing cold.

Hot chocolate made from scratch and complemented with a bit of chili is, of course a favorite among the older ones while the kids would really go for some hot milk chocolate with marshmallows (preferably cut into many funny shapes). And while pies and the like could be thought of as snacks for all seasons, freshly-baked with almonds and walnuts most definitely add to the festive and giving feel of the winter season. The same thing goes for cookies – and again, remember that it is best to serve your winter yummys piping hot or at the very least extremely warm to chase away the frost.

Another thing you can do with your yummys for the winter is imbue them with hints of the holiday season – kids love those. Top your cupcakes high with cream mixed with green food coloring and sprinkle them with M&Ms and sprinklings to create a Christmas tree cupcake, or dust your cookies with confectioner's sugar to make them look like they came from the snow. Out of all the seasons, winter is the one that gives you the opportunity to be conservative but at the same time creative with your yummys.
