Summer, as we all very well know, is the best time to have snacks. Because the weather is so hot, we are all more inclined to munch on snacks that is, on smaller food portions than on full-on meals. And because summer is so warm, we are also less inclined to snack on warm yummys. Summer, especially for the kids, also tends to be the time for vacation and outdoor activity. So it is only logical that your yummys for summer be a good combination of snacks that give energy (so we can indulge in all the summer fun we can) while at the same time discourage dehydration. This is why juicy fruits, served fresh, are often thought of as ideal summer yummys. Sorbets that is, shaved ice flavored with various things like fruit juice or syrup are also favorites during the summer season, as they have the double duty of keeping you cool while at the same time giving you enough sugar and water to keep you playing.
As a rule of thumb, summer snacks do not need extensive preparation. That is to say, you can make do without all the cooking and baking and things that leave you in front of the stove and we're pretty sure you'd like that as well, because who would want to be in front of a stove when the sun is so hot? Summer yummys tend to be simple and sweet. And, for the most part, it is best if your summer snack can be eaten as finger food stuff that you can just pop into your mouth. Having something to bite into is nice, of course, one hot summer days and evenings, you're likely to not want to expend too much of your energy. Summer is all about being lazy, after all, but not without catching a few rays at the beach.
